A night out from Shoreditch to the river, in good company
The City empties at seven and Shoreditch fills at nine. Between the two, and across the river on Bankside, there is enough to fill a night without walking the same street twice: a rooftop off Curtain Road, cocktail rooms under the railway arches, live music in converted warehouses, kitchens that serve into the small hours. Dressing for the door
Shoreditch is relaxed about clothes, but its better rooftops and hotel bars are less relaxed than they look. She dresses for the smartest place on the plan, so a door policy is never your problem. Tell the desk where you are starting, and if the night includes somewhere with a strict code, a members' club or a hotel bar in the City, mention that too.
Late is normal here
This is the offering where the desk's round-the-clock hours count most. A message at eleven for a night that starts at midnight is nothing unusual, and the reply still arrives within 10 to 15 minutes. The later you write, the shorter the list of who is free, so if you already know on Friday afternoon that the night will be long, send the message then.
The Bankside version
Not every night out needs Shoreditch. South of the river the same three hours can run at a gentler pace: a drink on a hotel rooftop in Southwark with St Paul's across the water, a late set at a jazz bar, a glass of wine in the old coaching inn yard off Borough High Street, and a slow walk back along the embankment with the bridges lit. It suits a guest who wants a lively evening without a queue at any door, and it ends a few minutes from most of the hotels on the south bank. On summer nights the terraces stay busy long after dark; in winter the same route turns inward, towards low ceilings, open fires and smaller rooms.
Five who like the late hours
Molly starts from ten at night, loves deep house and old cars, and keeps a playlist for exactly this kind of evening. Jasmin dances salsa, knows her way around a perfume counter and prefers starts after nine. Stacy, 176 cm, photographs the city after dark and never misses a stand-up night if she can help it. Tina hunts for soul and disco records and can be booked at short notice on most evenings. When the night should end
Three hours go quickly after dark. If you want her to stay on at the last bar, ask the desk before the time is up; more time depends on her night and costs the difference to the following step. Yes, and it is the most natural direction. The bars around Liverpool Street and Bishopsgate suit the first drink after work, and Shoreditch is a ten-minute walk north.
