One long street-level concourse now runs beneath all fifteen platforms, with exits to Tooley Street on one side and to St Thomas Street and the Shard on the other. Trains that finish beneath the tower
Thameslink runs through from Gatwick Airport in roughly half an hour, and from Brighton, Bedford and Cambridge beyond. Southeastern brings trains in from Kent and the coast, and Southern from Sussex and the south London suburbs. Upstairs, the platforms stand open to the sky. Downstairs, the concourse is bright and wide, with shops, a few bars and the way through to the Underground.
For a booking, the station matters only as the place your journey ends. Companions do not wait at platforms or ticket barriers. Every evening opens at the address where you are staying, whether hotel, apartment or home, and the station simply decides how quickly you get there.

Four hotels a short walk from the gates
Shangri-La The Shard is a minute or two from the St Thomas Street exit, its lobby at the foot of the tower. London Bridge Hotel faces the station across London Bridge Street, small, independent and easy to find after a long journey. Hilton London Tower Bridge is about seven minutes east through More London, beside the river. Hilton London Bankside is further west, and a short cab ride suits it better than the walk.

Writing to the desk while the train is moving
The quickest method is to send your message before you arrive. Name the hotel, the start and the length. On a Gatwick service the reply normally lands somewhere around East Croydon; by the time you step onto the platform, her name, the full figure and an arrival time are already on your phone. The final details, your full name and room number, follow once you have checked in.
Trains run late. Tell the desk the moment your arrival slips, and the start time moves with it wherever possible. Plans called off three hours or more ahead cost nothing, and the complete cancellation terms sit with every fee on the rates page. Everything around the station is Zone 1, which means no travel charge on top.

Under one roof, and the walk from each exit
London Bridge itself serves the Jubilee and Northern lines and the national rail network, and its exits are a minute from the hotels on St Thomas Street and London Bridge Street. Six minutes' walk south brings you to Borough and the Northern line; eight minutes north, across the water, Monument has the Circle and District, useful if your hotel turns out to be on the City side.
She reaches you by car, not through the station. On a weeknight, expect a companion at your hotel roughly an hour after confirmation, sometimes sooner when the Embankment is clear.

Two hours at £500 fits neatly between a train that came in late and one that leaves early: a drink in the London Bridge Hotel bar, supper on Bermondsey Street or high in the Shard, and goodnight before twelve. If the train home leaves in the morning, the overnight of ten hours at £1,800 keeps the whole evening intact and still leaves time for breakfast before the first departure.
