The Shard climbs 310 metres beside the station, and at night its upper floors keep the last of the light long after the street below has gone dark. London Bridge sits at its feet: a railway terminus, a market, a cathedral and a short granite span back into the City. A district that looks north across the water
Stand in the middle of the bridge and let the view do the talking. Upstream, the dome of St Paul's and the towers of the City. Downstream, HMS Belfast at her mooring and Tower Bridge beyond her. The present bridge opened in 1973. Its nineteenth-century predecessor was sold, shipped and rebuilt in the Arizona desert, a fact every Londoner tells a visitor exactly once.
South of the river the district is compact and layered. Southwark Cathedral sits below the railway viaduct, Borough Market fills the arches beside it until early evening, and Hay's Galleria and the riverside walk at More London run east towards the Tower. By nine the office crowd has gone home, the restaurants are full, and the hotels become the calmest rooms in the postcode.
The guests who write to us from here tend to fall into three groups. Visitors on a high floor of the Shard with a view worth sharing. City professionals who have walked over the bridge to their hotel after a late meeting. Travellers off a southbound train with a single night in town. All three want the same thing: a companion who is punctual, dressed for the room and in no hurry.

Shangri-La The Shard occupies floors 34 to 52 of the tower. Its street entrance is on St Thomas Street, and GONG, the bar on level 52, is often called the highest hotel bar in the city. London Bridge Hotel stands opposite the station on London Bridge Street, an independent with a small, quiet bar. Hilton London Tower Bridge is five minutes east in More London, close to the river path and the Tower views.
West along the river, Hilton London Bankside and citizenM London Bankside sit behind Tate Modern, fifteen minutes on foot or five by cab. We mention these hotels as places a companion walks into, never as partners. No reception desk here holds any arrangement with us, nor would we seek one. Stations, minutes on foot, and when she arrives
London Bridge station is two minutes from the foot of the tower, with the Jubilee and Northern lines underground and mainline trains overhead. Borough, on the Northern line, is six minutes south along Borough High Street. Monument, for the Circle and District lines, is eight minutes away on the City side of the bridge.
Your companion comes by cab rather than by Tube. Every woman on the roster lives in central or west London, so the drive east along the Embankment or over Blackfriars Bridge usually takes twenty to thirty minutes. From the desk's confirmation to a knock at your door, allow a little under an hour on most nights. Friday traffic can add ten minutes, and you are told the expected time before you agree to anything. London Bridge is inside Zone 1, so her journey adds nothing to the fee.

One booking, told from the first message
Half past seven. A message arrives on WhatsApp: a name from the gallery, two hours, a room at the Shangri-La, a start at nine. Within minutes the desk answers with the companion confirmed, the fee of £500 and an arrival time. Before anything becomes final it confirms three details a single time: whose name the room is held under, which hotel, which room. After that it asks nothing further.
Ten to nine. She is in the lobby, dressed for a cocktail bar rather than a boardroom. A drink at GONG with the whole city laid out below the glass, then back down to the room for the second hour and the kind of unhurried conversation that seems to happen more easily above the thirtieth floor. At eleven she leaves as quietly as she arrived. The only record of the evening is the desk's own, and it is deleted once it has served its purpose.

Nobody on our roster lives in SE1, so every companion crosses the river to reach it. Nancy and Tina set out from Covent Garden, one bridge and a short drive away. Molly and Jasmin come from Soho, and Roxi from Pimlico, along the river. Anyone else in the gallery makes the same trip if asked; simply name her in your message.
The streets around the tower have pages of their own. London Bridge Station deals with arrivals off the Gatwick and south coast trains. Borough is the market quarter a few streets south, Bermondsey starts ten minutes east along Tooley Street, and Southwark, further west, holds the Bankside galleries and their hotels. Yes. She arrives at the street-level entrance on St Thomas Street and follows whatever the hotel asks of an evening visitor. All the desk needs is the name the room is booked under and the room number.
Usually a little under an hour. The drive from central London takes twenty to thirty minutes, and the desk confirms first. A message sent earlier in the evening gives you a wider choice of companion.
One hour, from £250. Most evenings here suit either two hours, £500, or dinner followed by the rest of the night, which runs four hours for £900. Travel inside Zone 1 is already part of every figure.
