Two banks and a bridge that opens
On the south side, Shad Thames is a narrow street of former spice and tea warehouses, crossed overhead by iron gantries that once moved goods between the buildings. The riverfront at Butler's Wharf holds a row of restaurants with terraces facing the bridge, the best seats in London for watching it light up. On the north side, St Katharine Docks wraps a marina of yachts in cafés and bars, and the Tower of London sits behind its walls a few minutes west.
The bridge lifts are published in advance, which matters to anyone crossing by car. When the bascules rise, the road closes for around ten minutes. From a restaurant terrace that is a spectacle; from the back of a cab it is a small delay, and the desk allows for it.
High above the road, the two walkways between the towers were built for pedestrians, closed in 1910, reopened decades later and more recently fitted with glass floors some 42 metres over the Thames. Looking down through them as a bus crosses below is a peculiar thrill, and a good first story to tell over dinner.

Who books at the bridge
Tower Bridge draws guests who want the landmark in their window. Visitors on a first trip to London. People marking a birthday or the close of a deal. Business travellers at the Tower Hill hotels on the City's eastern edge. The evenings booked here are usually about the view: dinner on a terrace, a walk over the bridge, the old fortress floodlit behind them. It is the most photographed spot on this stretch of the river, and after ten it is also one of the most peaceful.

On the north bank, the Four Seasons at Ten Trinity Square occupies the former Port of London Authority headquarters, a 1920s palace of Portland stone facing the Tower gardens. citizenM Tower of London is its neighbour, with a rooftop bar that looks across to the Tower. The Tower Hotel stands right beside the bridge at St Katharine's, a large 1970s building whose river rooms look straight at the bascules. South of the river, Hilton London Tower Bridge is in More London, five minutes' walk from the southern end.
We list these because guests stay in them, not through any partnership, of which there are none. Private addresses are equally welcome, from a Shad Thames warehouse flat to an apartment overlooking the marina.

Stations at each end, and her arrival
Tower Gateway, on the DLR, is seven minutes from the north end of the bridge. Tower Hill, served by the Circle and District, takes eight. On the south side, London Bridge is ten minutes' walk west along Tooley Street, with the Jubilee and Northern lines and mainline trains.
She comes by car from central London, along the Embankment and Lower Thames Street for the north bank, or through Borough for the south. Allow a little under an hour from confirmation, a few minutes more if the bridge happens to be up. Both ends sit in Zone 1, so her travel is already inside the fee.
Her arrival point is whichever entrance your hotel uses for evening guests, on Trinity Square, at St Katharine's or beside the river path at More London, and lets the desk know the moment she is there. You are told straight away. From then on the evening is yours to shape.

An evening with the bridge in view

They walk over the bridge as the lights come on, take a terrace table at Butler's Wharf and watch the river traffic slide under the bascules.
